Common questions
A taser will be confiscated immediately — it is prohibited in carry-on baggage in every region. In countries where tasers are illegal to possess, such as the UK, EU, Australia, and Canada, detection at a security checkpoint could also result in police involvement, as possession itself is a criminal offence in those places.
In the US, tasers are legal consumer products in most states, so the only aviation rule is that they must travel in checked baggage — not carry-on. In the UK, EU, Australia, and Canada, tasers are classified as prohibited weapons under domestic law, which means they cannot be transported in either carry-on or checked baggage on flights to, from, or within those regions.
Tasers have a distinctive shape and contain electronic components that are visible on X-ray. Even a taser packed in a holster or case will be flagged. Officers are trained on stun weapon recognition, and there is no way to disguise the device.
Pack the taser in your checked baggage only — it is never permitted in carry-on. Ensure it cannot accidentally activate during the flight by removing the cartridge or using the safety mechanism, and check whether your specific airline has any additional requirements beyond TSA rules.
