Selfie stick
Common questions
Nothing — selfie sticks are permitted in carry-on and checked baggage everywhere and will pass through security without any issue. There is no security classification that would flag a selfie stick as a restricted item, and screeners will not pull it out for additional inspection.
No. Selfie sticks are permitted in carry-on and checked baggage in all regions we cover with no restrictions. This is one of the simpler items to travel with — the only real restrictions you will encounter are at the destinations themselves, where many venues, museums, and stadiums ban their use, not on the plane.
It is possible that a very long or unusually shaped selfie stick might prompt a screener to take a second look on the X-ray, simply because it is an elongated metal or plastic rod. Once they identify it, however, there will be no issue. If your stick has a Bluetooth remote with a small battery, that is also permitted and will not cause a problem.
Either option is perfectly fine from a security standpoint. If your selfie stick is a compact, pocket-size model, carrying it on makes it more accessible. A longer, tripod-style selfie stick may be more conveniently stored in checked baggage to avoid taking up space in the overhead bin.
